The Indian Voter Id Card is also known as EPIC Card (Election Photo Identity Card). It is an identity document issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to the citizens who have completed 18 years of age and a permanent resident of any states of India. Basically, it works as an identity for Indian citizens while casting their vote in the country’s Gaon Panchayet (GP), Municipality Corporation, State and National elections.

1. Proof of Date of Birth (Self attested copy) [any of the following]:
- Birth Certificate
- Aadhaar Card
- PAN Card
- Driving License
- HSLC Admit card or Pass Certificate containing DOB
- Indian Passport
- Any Other Document (If none of the above documents are available, please specify)
2. Proof of Residency (Self attested copy) [any of the following]:
- Water Connection Bill for that address (at least 1 year old connection)
- Latest Electricity Bill for that address (at least 1 year of active connection)
- Gas Connection Bill for that address (at least 1 year old connection)
- Aadhaar Card
- Current passbook of Nationalized/Scheduled Bank or Post Office
- Indian Passport
- Revenue Department’s Land-Owning records including Kisan Bahi
- Notarized Rent/Lease Deed/Agreement (In case of tenant)
- Registered Sale Deed (In case of own house)
- Any Other Document (If none of the above documents are available, please specify)
3. One Copy of Passport size recent photograph with white background (3.5cm x 4.5cm)
4. Aadhaar Card is required for linking with EPIC Card (if available)
5. EPIC number of any family member whose name is already included in the electoral roll at current address with whom I am currently residing. (Along with relationship status)
Note:
✔ In case of a married female applicant, name of Husband may preferably be mentioned in relative’s section.
✔ Marriage registration certificate is also required in case of the applicant is married and husband or wife option is selected in the relative’s section.
✔ Submission of self-attested copy of mentioned documents will ensure speedy delivery of services.
✔ In case of the mentioned documents are not available, field verification is must. As for example, category like homeless Indian citizens who are otherwise eligible to become electors but do not possess any documentary proof of ordinary residence, Electoral Registration Officer shall designate a Booth Level Officer (BLO) for field verification.
✔ Before applying Voter Identity Card (EPIC) make sure that you have no pending application in National Voter Portal and you have not applied for Voter Identity Card earlier in any circumstances or you are not currently holding any active EPIC Id in the latest Electoral Roll or Voter list which was issued earlier by Election Commission of India (ECI) and has been lost/destroyed (if any)
✔ If your current location or permanent residency has changed or you have shifted to any other place then you can transfer/shift your earlier Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) from old location to the present residency (submission of new address proof is required)

- The applicant must be an Indian Citizen by birth.
- The applicant must be 18 years old.

- The applicant should have permanent address in any state of India related to his/her parents or spouse.

Basically, there are two ways to apply Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC). Following are the steps, and ways the applicant should go through-
- The applicant can apply EPIC online through official Voter website of Election Commission of India (ECI).
- EPIC can be applied through nearest Common Service Centers (CSC) anywhere in India.
EPIC Voter Id Card Online Application Step-by-Step Procedure-
First Step:
- Visit the Official Voter Portal of Election Commission of India.
- Click on ‘Sign-Up’ for new user registration.
- Now click on Indian Resident Elector.
- Now enter your active Mobile number followed by your E-mail address if available.
- Now enter the captcha and click on Continue.
- Now enter your First Name, Last Name and create a password of your choice.
- Now click on Request OTP and enter the code received on your mobile number and complete the OTP verification process.
- After the OTP verification, registration successfully completed dialog box will appear.
Second Step:
- Now you need to go to the Home page of official Voter Portal again and click on ‘Login’.
- Now enter Registered Mobile Number/Email-ID/EPIC Number and Password.
- Now enter the captcha and click on Request OTP.
- After the OTP verification you will successfully Log in to the National Voter Portals Home page.
- Now click on “Fill Form 6′ for new registration for general electors.
- Now complete the application form with accurate personal data and upload required documents.
- Now Enter the captcha as displayed and click on Preview and Submit.
- Now check the entire form in preview tab very consciously from the beginning.
- If everything is correct in the preview form, click on submit.
- After successful submission of the Form, an acknowledgement number will generate.
- You can note the acknowledgement number and save the page as PDF for future reference.
- Now you have successfully applied for EPIC Voter Identity Card.
